Assessment

Bear River Mental Health provides thorough mental health assessments performed by trained and licensed professionals who help our clients obtain accurate diagnoses and treatment options. A thoughtful and caring assessment allows our practitioners to more fully understand your needs and how best to help you onto the path of better mental health and well-being.

Our mental health evaluations typically consist of questions asked by our therapists as well as questionnaires that you and others in your life may be asked to fill out. We try to get a full picture of your current mental and emotional state so that we can outline the best treatment plan for the best possibility for success.

Why Have an Assessment?

A mental health assessment helps us to help you. Bear River Mental Health performs these evaluations for a number of reasons, primarily so we can:

  • Get an accurate diagnosis of our client’s problems by using research-based methods
  • Determine if mental health concerns are causing other underlying physical issues
  • Pinpoint whether or not mental health is contributing to other problems in life, such as behavioral concerns
  • Check for cognitive functioning

While treatment is possible without an assessment, doing so helps our providers create an individualized plan especially suited to your needs.

How Are Assessments Done?

The clinicians at Bear River Mental Health use a variety of methods to complete assessments, but the most common include interviews, questionnaires and cognitive testing. During interviews, a therapist will ask questions related to your mood, emotions, symptoms and behaviors. Our providers listen closely to your answers while also observing your physical responses, including your expressions, your mood and your body language. You will also be asked to fill out questionnaires regarding how you think, feel and act under various situations.

Our providers may also have you complete verbal or written cognitive tests. This allows us to determine if there are any concerns with your cognitive functioning that could be contributing to your current mental health concerns.

How Long Are the Assessments?

The length of our mental health evaluations will vary based on individual client needs, but you can expect most to take a few hours. Some of our providers may split the assessments up into multiple sessions. If you feel like an assessment is the right option for you, please set aside time to complete the entire process—and feel free to bring a friend or family member for support.

Here at Bear River Mental Health, we pride ourselves in our ability to provide individualized mental health services. Assessments help us give you the personalized treatments you need to improve your overall wellbeing. Contact the facility closest to you to schedule an assessment.
